Didn't you mention you had children? You haven't forgone popularity for your family?

That was a long time ago. I don't live with my descendants.

Oh? The allure of travel too irresistible?

[There's a pause. He takes another sip, wondering.]

I wouldn't worry about it. It's got nothing to do with this place.

[shaft]

[ He is now rummaging around for tea. ]

Am I being nosy? By the way, don't you also have class?

[ercnerd]

[Good boy.

He stifles another yawn.]

[ Claude is going to pull Sieghart aside for this, away from the children who are very prone to breakdown, and hope that Lucretia can keep them stable in the meanwhile. ]

So what do you make of this? I don't want to alarm the others, but I'm trying to figure out if we should anticipate a fight.

[ercnerd]

[The children are prone to breakdown.

Sieghart is prone to rage, but there's no reason to point his anger at Claude. He readjusts his grip on the hilt of his sword.]

It's the first time anything like this has happened. We should be prepared for anything.

[shaft]

What if the doors are locked for our protection? [ He glances back toward the windows, grim. ] Have you ever heard growling at night?

[ercnerd]

No. Have you?

[shaft]

Just once. Chad said it might be one of the geese, but I'm doubtful.

Maybe it's optimistic. Either way, we should focus on not letting anything in rather than getting out. What do you think?

[ercnerd]

[That's what everyone gets for angering the geese.]

At this point, we don't have a choice. We're going to have to fight off anything that gets inside.

[shaft]

[ Claude loves going into a fight without a weapon. ]

We should make a plan then—without causing panic. I just don't want those unarmed to end up on the front lines if anything happens.

[ fyi i'm too lazy to do this so let's say they pass out before actually enacting any plan ]

[Claude has fists and feet.]

I'm no good at taking lead. If something happens, I'll take the front and you can handle the rest.

[shaft]

... You're not? That's not the impression I got.

[ also why do you think claude is any better at taking lead ]

[ercnerd]

[He does not want this responsibility.]

All I did was round up some rowdy kids.

[One of them didn't even want to stay with anybody. That's going to be a problem if something happens upstairs.]

I don't know about you, but I plan to do what I'm good at.

[ Rubs his temple. ]

All right, I suppose I can try to corral some of our less... seasoned housemates away from any danger. [ Isn't that all of them except Molly and Sakyou? ] Do you know if Lucretia's any good in a fight?

[ercnerd]

I'd ask her if I were you. She should be able to take care of herself either way.

[shaft]

All right. That's one less person to worry about at least.

[ He glances back in the direction the others are. ]

I wonder what the chances are that we're overreacting.

[ercnerd]

Even if we are, that's better than underreacting.

[shaft]

You can say that again.

[ And Claude will briefly disappear into his suite... Before returning with a frying pan. ]
